The end of TikTok in the U.S.? Looks like Americans had to find a new app to doomscroll on (for 12 hours) 📲 The federal ban took effect this month, shutting down the app for 170 million Americans. This is all because lawmakers panicked that TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, might be sharing your dance moves and smoothie recipes with the Chinese government. Hello RedNote! And a New Instagram Grid…

In a world dominated by short-form video, a new player entered the game and quickly turned heads 🤩 In only two days, more than 700,000 new users joined Xiaohongshu, also known as, RedNote. RedNote grew rapidly after the announcement of the TikTok ban when Americans scrambled for a new platform to fill the TikTok hole. While Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts have been competing for a while, RedNote claimed the throne. As TikTok users were looking for a new home, RedNote rolled out the welcome mat, but it didn’t last for long. After TikTok was restored, the daily active users in the US declined by 54%. The platform introduced a 4:5 profile grid take-over and, for US creators, extended 3-minute reels (most likely to grab the attention of those on TikTok).
