Social Media News / November 2025

Hey there,

Social media has been in full chaos mode and we’ve rounded up the biggest updates so you can stay one step ahead. Instagram is remixing its layout, Vine is creeping back into the chat, and TikTok is quietly shifting how creators win on the For You Page. We’re also happy to welcome Bustle to the Mosh family – leading the way for hospo heroes. Consider this your catch-up on everything worth knowing right now 🫶

Instagram’s Updates Are Giving “New Phone, Who Dis?” Energy

Instagram has pressed shuffle on its layout, and yes your thumbs are probably as confused as the rest of us. The Search and Reels tabs have swapped places, the + button has vanished from the bottom bar, and the centre icon now takes you straight to DMs. Swiping right from your Home screen now lands you on Reels, swipe again and you’re suddenly in your messages. It’s muscle-memory chaos… but once you settle in, the new flow is surprisingly effortless.

Why the overhaul? Instagram hit three billion users, and Mosseri himself confirmed that DMs, Reels and recommendations are what’s driving that growth. So IG redesigned the entire experience around the features that people use the most. A little jarring at first, but the payoff? Faster navigation, more intentional browsing, and workflows that cater to how we actually use the app in 2025.

And speaking of long-awaited updates… The Watch History feature is officially being added! Ever scrolled past something way too fast, only to realise later it was important? Ever tried to show someone a Reel you swear you “just saw” but of course, didn’t save? Your prayers have finally been answered 🙏

You will now be able to see every Reel you’ve watched in the last 30 days, sort by date, filter by creator, or wipe out videos you don’t want influencing your algorithm. It’s transparency, sanity, and a little accountability all in one.

But that’s not all. Instagram is also testing a native Auto Scroll feature for Reels. Good news? More passive views = potential reach boosts. The down side? Even easier doomscrolling. Creators can toggle it on or off by tapping the three dots on any Reel (if you’re part of the test group). Love it or hate it, it’s another big nudge toward hands-free bingeing and gives more opportunities for your content to be discovered.

Overall, the new IG experience is slicker, smarter, and built to keep creators (and their audiences) in the loop longer. Change is painful… but this one might be worth the thumb re-training.

Vine Is Back(ish)… Meet diVine

The internet’s favourite six-second chaos is getting a revival. diVine is a new app from early Twitter folks and it’s bringing back the Vine vibe while staying proudly AI free.

Over 100,000 classic Vines have been restored and you can upload new ones as long as they’re filmed by a real human. No AI filters, no generated faces, no weird synthetic stuff. The app uses technology from the human rights nonprofit known as the Guardian Project, to check that every clip is genuinely shot on a phone.

It’s fun, nostalgic and very old internet energy.

Will it hit Vine level culture? Or just be a cute nostalgia trip that fades out? Too early to tell. Vine was a perfect storm. diVine is tapping into that feeling with human-only content, decentralised hosting on Nostr and a public beta on iOS and Android.

Whether it becomes a comedy renaissance or a cosy corner away from AI, we’re here for the ride 🌟

TikTok Is In a Transition Phase Right Now

If your TikTok views have been feeling a little “meh” lately, you’re not alone. The app is boosting its newest features and creators who lean into them are seeing the strongest results. Here’s how to get back in the algorithm’s good books:

⭐ Use the Flip Story feature: TikTok is obsessed with Stories right now and Flip Stories get priority. Switch between front and back camera while you film and the app gives you extra reach.

⭐ Create inside the app: Film and edit in TikTok. Use their transitions, effects, captions and filters. Native content gets rewarded.

⭐ Jump on trending sounds: You don’t need to chase every trend, but using rising audio early can boost discoverability fast.

⭐ Master your first three seconds: A strong hook keeps people watching which signals the algorithm to push your video.

⭐ Get social: Reply to comments, duet, stitch and be active. Creators who join the conversation outperform those who just post and leave.

⭐ Go Live: Lives increase your overall account activity and help push recent videos to new viewers.

A Warm Welcome to Bustle as They Join the Mosh Family

Bustle is an energetic and fast growing team, supporting hospitality across New Zealand, Australia and the UK. They came to us with a great product and a solid brand look, and we’ve been working with them to shape how they show up on socials in a way that feels clear, useful and genuinely hospo friendly ✨

Our focus has been on building a social strategy that helps them tell their story, share the events they run and highlight the cafés and restaurants already using Bustle. We’ve helped to refine their content approach, strengthened the purpose behind each post and made sure their spend works harder across every channel. If you’re in hospitality and looking for tools that make the day run smoother, it’s worth checking out what Bustle can do for your own venture.

It’s been a fun partnership so far and we’re looking forward to helping them connect with even more of the hospo community worldwide 🌏

That’s a wrap for this round of updates 🎉 Thanks for reading. We’ll be back soon with more insights, trends and all the good vibes you need to stay ahead ✨
