Here we go Again: Meta’s Testing a New Layout in the Desktop Version of Facebook

It looks like Meta is testing a pretty hefty redesign to the Facebook experience.

Stan Schroeder from Mashable reported waking up to some hectic changes to his home feed, and he, at least, wasn’t impressed.

The most immediately noticeable change is the shift of the navigation buttons from the top of the page to the left, bundling them together with almost all of the other menus and settings

Part of this change includes a familiar button grid icon (at least, familiar if you use Business Manager on the regular), allowing you to expand out to show all the missing menus and sidebars.

Full disclosure, we aren’t UX/UI engineers, but the expandable, nested menus look a little nightmarish to us right now. However, there were plenty of naysayers the last time Facebook made design changes, so we’ll reserve judgement until we get hands-on to see how it really feels.

Facebook Groups Get New Update to Help the Battle  Against Misinformation

A slew of new features has recently been announced to help group admins grow, manage and protect their communities on Facebook. This is in part to try and curb misinformation infiltrating private groups where it can be much harder to moderate.

The new features are grouped into three main areas, and include:

Misinformation Management

  • Automatically decline incoming posts that have been identified as containing false information, as verified by Facebook’s third-party fact-checkers.
  • Expanding and renaming the ‘mute’ functionality to ‘suspend’, allowing admins to temporarily stop users from participating in the group.

Community Management

  • Automatic member approvals/declines, based on specific criteria Admins can set up.
  • Various Admin Home updates to make managing groups more efficient, including an overview page on desktop to quickly review things that need attention, a layout update to more easily sort and search tasks, and an insights summary on mobile to help admins understand the growth and engagement of their groups.

Group Growth

  • Admins can create QR codes that take users to the group’s ‘About’ page when scanned.
  • The ability to send invites to email.
